Press Release 2008

Americans for John Mitchel Press Release

On January 25th the Beavercreek Women's League sponsored a forum for all candidates running in the March 4th primary. Here are John Mitchel's responses to those questions:

Again I want to thank the Beavercreek Women's League for sponsoring this candidate forum, and I want to apologize for not remaining to answer the questions in person. Let me assure you my early departure for another commitment had nothing to do with the campaign, but everything to with paying the mortgage and taxes, and putting food on the table. In any case, there were over a dozen outstanding questions, but for the most part my primary opponents are or should be in agreement. For example, I assume any self-respecting patriot supports the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms as I do. Therefore I focused only on the questions that differentiate my views from all or some of the other three Congressional candidates in the March 4th Republican Primary.

1. What is your position on the war in Iraq? The Constitution gives Congress and only Congress the authority to declare war, thus those who abdicated that authority to the President as Dave Hobson did, violated their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution. However, regardless of how you feel about how we got there or why we remain in Iraq after nearly five years of occupation, we simply cannot afford the trillions of dollars it will take to maintain a world empire. It's time to bring the troops home to defend our own borders and use the savings to reconstitute and modernize our military forces.

2. What is your stand on the FairTax? I support the FairTax, and would co-sponsor House Resolution 25 if I am elected to Congress. We need a tax code that is fair, simple and pays the bills, not one like the federal income tax that punishes creativity and productivity. More than half the time of a lobbyist is spent finding tax loopholes for their clients. The FairTax goes a long way to removing the control lobbyists have over our lives and who is elected to Congress. I also would limit myself to no more than six years in Congress. Knowing this, lobbyists and special interests would not bother asking me to support unconstitutional legislation or wasteful earmarks.

3. National Debt: Is this important to you? What will you personally do to avoid passing trillions of dollars of debt on to our children and grandchildren? Yes, my generation's legacy to our children and grandchildren is very important to me. During Dave Hobson's nine terms in Congress, the National Debt has gone from less than $4 trillion to over $9 trillion. I would never vote for an unbalanced budget. I would aggressively attack wasteful earmarks such as the $2.8 million Dave Hobson earmarked for The Greene, thus subsidizing a private development company.

Thank you for your interest, and if you have any other questions about our campaign to take America back, you can send me an email from the www.reformcongress.com homepage (lower left hand corner).
