Press Release 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

John Mitchel calls for National Referendum on North American Union (NAU)

Beavercreek, Ohio, Monday, February 4th, 2008: One month before the March 4th primary, Republican candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, and former Air Force Lieutenant Colonel John Mitchel announced his support for a November 2008 National Referendum on issues related to the North American Union which would establish a political and economic entity similar to the European Union. Colonel Mitchel stated he wants three specific issues to go before the voters for an up or down vote in November. He believes it’s time the government shine a bright light on planning for the NAU by giving the voters a say in whether or not we should build a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway, whether or not we should enter into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada and whether or not the United States should give unlimited access to Mexican trucks with Mexican drivers.

Forty-four members of Congress have already co-sponsored House Congressional Resolution 40 which “Expresses the sense of Congress that the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway System or enter into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada.” Co-sponsors include Texas Congressman and Presidential candidate Ron Paul, Democrat Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) and Republicans Pat Tiberi (OH-12), Steve LaTourette (OH-14) and Ralph Regula (OH-16).

Mitchel commented, "Ohioans already enjoy strong, bipartisan support for HR 40, and if elected, I would be proud to add my name as co-sponsor to the list that already includes Ohioans Marcy Kaptur, Pat Tiberi, Steve LaTourette and Ralph Regula. Their support to bring the North American Union out into the light of day is commendable, but especially so for the Republican co-sponsors who take a position against Washington GOP insiders, including the incumbent in the 7th District, Dave Hobson. Just like NAFTA and the World Trade Organization serve as frontal assaults on American sovereignty, the North American Union would further diminish our right to conduct business in the global economy in the best interests of the American people and American businesses.”
